I remember a few years ago in Australia they made their own version of “Beauty and the Geek” and a chess player won the event with his partner. I didn’t realize but I now see that GM Dave Smerdon applied for the show and if you have met Dave before you’d know even though he’s incredibly geeky in some ways he’s not the public impression of “geek” so perhaps wasn’t “geeky” enough to appear then on the show. It would’ve been fantastic if he was chosen but stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason.
