2 Rapids & 2 Simuls

It has been such a long time since I have written (I even tried to get Gawain to write some words but he’s too busy). I have started my course since I last wrote (which is the reason why Gawain is is New Zealand), we’ve played in the Bay Of Plenty Rapid, Gawain did a simul in Palmerston North and now he is in Auckland playing in the Latvian Rapid on Sunday.
Check out http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/ for the latest news!
We did a road trip up to Mount Manganui which was hosting the Bay Of Plenty Rapid. We stayed with my Aunt, Uncle and their dog JayD and took a walk down the beach around 10pm! Tournament wise Gawain came 1st and I came 2nd which was a nice surprise. Wellington to the Mount takes about 8hours we took a few pit stops and of course there are is just stunning scenery everywhere! Mountains, lakes, forests, waterfalls you name it.
On the way back we drove via Tongariro National Park and stopped at The Chate

au Tongariro for afternoon tea as well as views of Mt Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe.

During the weekend there was a Tsunami warning due to the Chilean Earthquake but most New Zealanders took it easy.
Gawain recently did two simuls in one day in Palmerston North. He was also in the local news http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/3462148/Chess-master-sweeps-the-board .
This week Gawain played the Dos Hermanas Qualifiers he qualified in Round 11 out of 12, He made it to the 32 player knock-out which started at 8am this morning beating GM Dmitry Gurevich 4-2 but unfortunately lost  to GM Lazaro Bruzon Batista.
This weekend he is playing the Latvian Rapid which starts tomorrow. I’ll let you know how he gets on.
That’s all for now, I’ll try and update more often but life does get busyIt has been such a long time since I have written (I even tried to get Gawain to write some words but he’s too busy).
