My name is Sue and I’m Gawain’s wife. I was born in Auckland, New Zealand and lived there with my family which consists of me, my parents and my younger brother Andrew. I met Gawain in 2008 and my life has been better for it since!
I’m also a WIM, I was New Zealand’s top female player until I switched to play for England. I love to travel, bake and eat cakes! In my free time, I play rugby, sort out all the “logistics” of Gawain’s career and study mandarin. I love taking photos and after selling my old camera I now have a shiny new one to start clicking away.
I do most of the writing here and try and write it from an amateur who’s been fortunate enough to hang with the top players perspective. I started a job with Sheffield City Council in September 2018, so will be balancing my chess, work and rugby playing! I play rugby for Sheffield Ladies RUFC.
I have one WGM/IM norm from the 2013/2014 4NCL. My ambition at the moment is to get to IM. Let’s hope I can make it.Thank you so much for reading my ramblings! Hope it’s interesting for you from a somewhat “amateur” perspective.
Sue
