Are you the UK’s next Chess superstar?

Checked out my tweets and one that popped up was from the ECF.

“BBC America are looking for young adult men who consider themselves ‘geeks’, and want to become more manly or macho for a new series to be filmed for 4-6 weeks in early 2013. If you think you need to ‘man up’ and want to compete for the chance win a “huge” prize by taking part in macho activities at an American Man Camp get in touch with kieran@castinghouse.co.uk to apply.”

I remember a few years ago in Australia they made their own version of “Beauty and the Geek” and a chess player won the event with his partner. I didn’t realize but I now see that GM Dave Smerdon applied for the show and if you have met Dave before you’d know even though he’s incredibly geeky in some ways he’s not the public impression of “geek” so perhaps wasn’t “geeky” enough to appear then on the show. It would’ve been fantastic if he was chosen but stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason.

So will you follow in Magnus Carlsen’s footstep?

    I think the main criteria they are looking for is;

    1. A ridiculously good chess player
    2. Someone who watches QI, religiously
    3. Someone who has written and reads many {chess} books
    4. And finally (perhaps most importantly), someone who plays Ricochet Robots as a way to wind down after a game of chess

    I’m not sure if this person exists but I think they would make the perfect candidate! :-)

      You should go for it Matty! Otherwise I think Ga would be a great candidate but he doesn’t want to do it..

    If only such a person existed (and I didn’t have to hide Richochet Robots for fear of having to play it when my eldest son comes home…)
