Of course the big news of today was the Rugby. Glenn Flear headed over here early to join in watching the World Cup Final. To be honest, I didn’t think New Zealand played very well but their defences were strong and the All Blacks held on to defeat France 8-7 in a very tense game, to pick up their first title since I was born.
After the game we wandered down to the port and had some lunch from a pizzeria. Glenn showed me a shortcut which gives me a much easier walk to the venue. I then came back to the hotel for a few hours and prepared a tricky line in the Kan Sicilian. I successfully caught out my opponent and won quickly. I think 13…Ng4 is an error but 16…Qe7?! and 19…b6? simply made matters worse.

I forgot to take my camera with me to the port; hopefully I’ll take some pictures later on in the tournament, but here are some photos from my walk to the venue.
Tomorrow is a double round day and a fairly early start with round three starting at 11am.
