Gawain has headed over the Irish Sea via plane this time to play the Kilkenny Masters held in Kilkenny, Ireland. This year’s event included more or less the same players from the 2010 Kilkenny Masters with players such as Ivan Cheparinov, Sebastian Maze and Mark Hebden. Hopefully we’ll be able to check out the live games if everything is in order and there will be updates on the ICU(Irish Chess Union) website.
Gawain has also confirmed his participation in the 2012 MP Reykjavik Open. I loved Reykjavik when we went in October and I highly recommend visiting for chess players and their non chess playing partners. According to NASA winter 2011/2012 is supposed to be the best time to see the Northern Lights! We missed out on seeing it last time as the moon was too bright but I hope to go back and get a glimpse.
