Land of the Long White Cloud.

The South African Open has been and gone. We’ve packed all our belongings (including a duvet) and are now back in Auckland. Even though we’ve been checking the site frantically we aren’t sure what Gawain’s placing was.. though the organiser recalled outright 2nd. He faced FM de Villiers in the penultimate Round and was down a queen for a rook though he played on due to his persistence and though his opponent played well he fell apart in the end game and Gawain tried to win the rook and 2 pawns vs. queen end game but his opponent held the draw. In the last round he won quickly against M Simutowe in 19moves. We spent Saturday evening packing and didn’t quite get to sleep until 6am. The alarm was then set for 7 and off we went. We had so many bags but somehow managed to get checked in and on time for our flight.

Now we are up at 4.40am but will try and get back to sleep soon. Hopefully we can sort out our sleeping pattern though we are flying on Tuesday to Malaysia.
