Round Seven – British Championships

After a great evening at Terry’s we got up reasonably early on the rest day and played some tennis with him and Matt. It was good fun but I think we were all a bit slow after the previous evening! After that Sue and I walked over to the Botanical Gardens which were rather further away than we anticipated but were worth the trouble to visit. A fairly calm evening and a long sleep before the second week’s games started today. I was paired Black against Nigel Short, a repeat pairing from the Commonwealth Championships. Again he played the English and I tried a different line but soon got into some trouble and after another error my position crumbled. I tried a queen sacrifice to set up some sort of fortress but it was never really going to work and Nigel took the full point.

Tomorrow I have White against David Howell and hoping to bounce back. Unfortunately Sue has had to go back to work today and so I’m without her until Thursday but will just have to see how I manage on my own!
