August 2005, Bratto, Italy. When you think of Italy in the summer you think of sweltering heat in the hot sun. This tournament however was played in the mountains in the north near Bergamo and so temperatures were respectable! I played here with the intention of going on holiday with my Italian friends and also throwing in a chess tournament! In the end I was very pleased with my score of 6.5/9 just losing one to a Super Grandmaster and drawing with three other gms. I finished 8th in this very strong tournament and had a tournament performance rating of 2551, my highest in this sort of tournament.
