Gawain’s currently on a plane back home to London. Inbetween the final round (which he drew) and going to the airport I managed to have a quick chat with him and he duly informed me that he won the tournament – not with an outright score but tied with 4 others on 4/5. In Italy (and I believe Spain) they use a tie break system to separate the prize money so effectively Gawain came 1st -it worked in his favour this time but it’s not the ideal system to have,especially as the person who came 5th(with the same score) doesn’t take home a prize!
Gawain mentioned his enourmous trophy he has to fit into his hand luggage(Ryanair) so will try and take a photo when back home.
