I thought I updated at least once on our trip but I didn’t! Aren’t I bad? And now there won’t be news for a while as Ga’s next tournament is over Easter again in Australia Doeberl/Sydney International Open.
d out in time trouble.

Gawain ended up on 7.5/11 finishing behind GM Zong-Yuan Zhao (10/11) and IM George Xie (9/11). The tournament was a bit tough with an 11am start and a rest day after round 3. The tournament was tough especially getting black against all the seeds just below him and trying to make it complicated which backfired against George Xie and Stephen Solomon.
The lightning went well for Gawain who 9.5/11, I nearly beat Junta Ikeda who took the Australian Lightning title but I freaked out in time trouble.
In Sydney we didn’t do the sights – Opera House e.t.c but we did drive past the bridge to get to the movies watching Avatar and Sherlock Holmes and had a fabulous arbiter Nick!
We also bowled a couple of times, Gawain striking and guttering!
The weather in Sydney was so humid, the heat, the rain! 4 seasons, Luckily though we weren’t in Melbourne which was scorching being 40degres+. Though the weather in Wellington is not much better wet and windy pouring with rain! We checked out Te Papa today as my brother is visiting which is highly recommended if you ever stop by Wellington!
Gawain will be commentating again for ICC the last round of Wijk aan Zee (31st Jan)! So check it out if you can, the start is a bit better being 11pm (NZ local time)
